The following poem, written by Charlie Smith, was read at a second, private ceremony at the Navy Yard docks where a wreath and candle, and several flowers, were sent out in the lake in memory of Chad:

"SHINING THROUGH"

Tonight, we gather at the shore, to light a candle in the night.

For a friend who's not in sight Don't Despair!

You know Chad is always there.

Do not stand at the lake and weep

Chad's soul is here to guide and keep

a watch over all that's dear,

to help remove all doubt and fear.

A star for Chad is named tonight,

to give us all a guiding light.

The love we share, we'll miss his sight,

is why we light his way tonight!

God Bless You, Chad
